Welcome to Odalisque

Welcome to the Official Odalisque Website

"Odalisque" is a fine sea faring vessel. She is a 1967 Tartan 27' sloop rig with hull number 328. She was sailed for many years by her previous owners on the Great Lakes. The second owner's son, James Murphy of East Hampton, NY, had the boat hauled from Wisconsin to Long Island some 10 years ago. By 2003, James had already purchased a nice Irwin '34 and wanted to find some appropriate owners to his father's and his old boat. "Odalisque" has been to many ports we have not yet been to, although we sailed/motored the boat from East Hampton to Kings Point where she was moored at Stepping Stone Marina in 2003 and 2004. This June we sailed her from Sea Cliff down the East River and up the Hudson River to Nyack where she will be moored this summer. A triumvirate of college friends, who are: Matthew Schlanger, Noah Smith and Caleb Davison now are the latest owners of this boat.

As we have read on other older Tartan 27' owners websites (tartan27owners.com for one), this boat is admired by many for its classic lines and wood accents and its design. We find the tiller handling quite forgiving and speed to be competitive with larger boats in the western Sound: we used a handheld GPS to figure the maximum hull speed of 6.2 knots while using the 30 HP A4 engine. We will be looking for you other Tartans, old and new, out on the briny.
