“Inauspicious Start”
Emboldened by my morning visit to Odalisque at her guest mooring where I found only a light drip coming from the stuffing box I decided to take Jessica on a sail that afternoon after she arrived from NYC. read more

“Investigate”
I was happy to leave Odalisque for a bit to go o the beach with Jessica in the afternoon and take a swim in the sound. Noah and his brother Adam came out to Glen Cove around 7 pm to look at Odalisque's engine. read more

“Finish, Test and Run”

One last fitting to install on the water pump saved from the old pump for 5/8” ID raw water intake. Install takes 20 minutes. Don and I test the engine under load in Hempstead Harbor. She is gulping water yet again! read more

We were awakened by Melisa’s carpenter, Alvaro and his crew in the morning. Don had to go to NYC to meet up with his family and I had promised to take Melisa on a boat ride. read more

“Owners Sailing Reunion”

Today was to be a day that Caleb, Matt, and Noah all got to sail on our boat in Huntington Harbor. Both Matt and Noah had left voice mail messages on my cell phone mail box.

Arrangements were made to have an automobile available to us at each port, which forced us to do more driving than we wanted to do. It was a beautiful July day though so it would be nice to be out on the water. read more

We arranged to pick up my friend Dmitri and his son Pavel at their building in Park Slope. They were running behind schedule so Jackson sat in the car and I worked at duct taping my side view mirror back to the door as we waited for them to return. read more

We arrived at Odalisque at 1230 and beat Matt and Laurie by 20 minutes. I applied some varnish to the toe rail I had worked so hard to restore. read more

Having flushed our engine with 3 gallons of oil we were still supposed to run the engine for a block of time (5 – 6 hours), which would be our task today. read more

“Winterizing begins”

Since I was the only unemployed partner in this boat, most of the work would fall on me. Odalisque is also conveniently located near my mother’s house. read more

What I began to realize is that the best order for winterizing the engine is to top off the fuel tank, add the fuel stabilizer, and then flush the cooling system and then do the oil with the water pump being one of the last details.
